Reopen a closed month for a correction

Updated October 4, 2026 2 min read

On this page

Reopening is an explicit correction step. It returns a closed month to the closing workflow so the change can be checked and the month closed again.

Before you begin

You need permission to reopen accounting periods. The person making financial changes during closing also needs the required close and transaction access. Agree on the reason and correction before beginning.

Reopen and correct

  1. Open Bookkeeping → Month-end close and select the closed month.
  2. Choose Reopen month.
  3. Enter the reason and confirm. If later months are already closed, reopen those first as the app requires.
  4. Make the authorized correction and review any affected transactions.
  5. Recheck reconciliation, bank-change issues, and financial reports.
  6. Close the month again once the readiness checks pass.

Reopening keeps the correction controlled

A reopened month returns to closing, not unrestricted ordinary editing. Its reopen reason and history remain part of the record.

Reopen is different from cancel close

Cancel close abandons an initial close in progress and removes that close’s reconciliation work. It is not the method for correcting a closed month or erasing its history.

Explain the change

Use a reason that a future treasurer can understand, such as “Correcting the fund assigned to the September 12 missions expense.” Keep supporting context with the transaction.
